Completion and Hand-over of Fluoride Recovery Unit (FRU) in Kuantan Malaysia
Author: BEEC Update: 2017-12-18
The HR-PIB plant, for which the FRU is designed and built, is the latest investment by BASF-Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd and the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Back in 2009 - 2010, our company (BEEC) provided a similar Fluoride Recovery Unit (FRU) to BASF-Yangzi Chemical Co., Ltd. in Nanjing China, where the cutting-edge Crystalactor® process is applied to recover the Fluoride in the waste stream discharged from PIB production process, which turns Fluoride from a contaminant in wastewater to a resource that can be recycled and reused.
Satisfied with operation and performance of FRU and equipment quality and service of BEEC, BASF decided to procure again the FRU system from Royal HaskoningDHV (RHDHV) for its newly built HR-PIB plant in Malaysia. BEEC as the main supplier and sub-contractor of RHDHV, provided all detail engineering work and most of the equipment and system integration in China, as well as site service at system commissioning and start-up.
Compared with previous Crystalactor® system for BASF in Nanjing, this FRU is more challenging as it’s the first time such a system is located out of China designed and supplied by BEEC, whereby we have to collaborate with more international parties, such as client of BASF Malaysia, EPCm firm and local contractors, as well as RHDHV Netherlands and Singapore. The project work started from the beginning of 2016, with a tight schedule and various challenges such as different cultures, values, mentalities have to be dealt with appropriately by BEEC.
After almost two years of endeavor, the FRU is completed on site and at the end of November 2017, the facility is officially handed over to client, which is being started up successfully, marking another milestone in BEEC’s market development in Southeast Asia’s water and environment market.
